About Me

I'm Juan Belmonte, a full-stack engineer with 20+ years of experience building scalable web products. I've spent my career in fast-moving spaces: identity verification, payments technology, and now—artificial intelligence at Microsoft.

Current Work

I'm a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft, leading frontend development for a generative AI product designed for non-technical users. The challenge is fascinating: how do you make image and text generation feel accessible and natural without exposing the underlying AI complexity? It's a journey in design-first thinking, accessibility, and progressive disclosure.

Key highlights from this role:

  • Shipped high-velocity features with React, TypeScript, TanStack, TailwindCSS, and i18next across international markets
  • Integrated the Figma MCP server to bridge design and engineering programmatically
  • Authored custom Claude Code skills to extend agent capabilities for the team's codebase
  • Contributed to significant user growth across Microsoft AI products through high-impact frontend delivery

What I Care About

Learning culture matters deeply to me. Throughout my career, I've run knowledge-sharing sessions, coding katas, technical workshops, and mentoring programs. I believe that technical excellence and strong teams go hand in hand.

I love great engineering. This means thoughtful architecture, pragmatic decisions, clean code that humans can read, and systems that scale. I'm drawn to problems where craft, culture, and impact intersect—where the technical work directly improves user experience and team velocity.

I'm exploring the frontier of AI-augmented engineering. The intersection of Claude Code, custom agents, and tools like the Figma MCP is fascinating. I'm actively experimenting with:

  • Integrating Claude Code + Figma MCP to bridge design and engineering
  • Authoring custom agent skills
  • Designing codebases for both human and AI consumption

Experience Highlights

GBG Plc (2021–2024)
Led the frontend team end-to-end, architecting a React/TypeScript modernisation, introducing Nx monorepo tooling, and building a versioned Docusaurus documentation platform. Championed team learning culture and cross-functional alignment across Product, Design, QA, and Engineering.

Worldline Iberia (2012–2021)
Progressed from developer to architect across full-stack and mobile domains. Built Node.js and J2EE platforms, pioneered cross-platform apps (Cordova, Ionic, Electron), and served as interim iOS Team Lead. Consistently mentored junior engineers and introduced knowledge-sharing as a core team practice.

Atos (2005–2011)
Started as an intern and converted to permanent roles. Built full-stack web applications using J2EE for public sector clients across Catalonia and Spain. Transitioned into .NET and then mobile development, broadening my platform expertise.
